MUSKEGON, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — Muskegon City Manager Frank Peterson knows renovating blighted properties around the city is a massive undertaking.
It's a $400,000 undertaking, to be exact, to tear down walls, redesign apartments into homes and then find buyers.
City officials reached a milestone as construction wrapped on the first of five properties and they hosted an open house at 1078 2nd St. Thursday.
"This house was in pretty rough shape. It was a three-unit home. Not only were they filled with garbage, but they were filled with old furniture. There was quite a bit of work that we had to do to it. We pretty much replaced every electrical wire, every piece of drywall, every piece of plumbing it was a complete, complete reconstruction of the house," Peterson explained as he walked through the house with fresh paint and new carpeting.
