(WOOD) — As the days in this campaign turn into hours, it is a pitched battle in Michigan for candidates battling for control of legislatures in Lansing and Washington.
On Saturday, West Michigan was ground zero for the races for governor and U.S. Senate.
The party faithful heard from Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Schutte and U.S. Senate candidate John James.
“It’s gonna be 51-49, but we’re gonna work hard until the polls close for the next three days making sure we get our vote out,” Schutte said.
About 100 people came out to the Holland Civic Center to hear the Republicans who have been lagging in the polls.
“You hear we have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of work to do,” James told the crowd, saying the GOP would make up the difference.
At the Teamster’s Hall nn Eastern Avenue in Wyoming, about 300 people were there for the Democrats including U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Gretchen Whitmer running for governor.
“And on election day, if it rains find an umbrella. If it’s cold, wear a coat. C’mon, we’re Michigan, right?” Stabenow said.
Both sides were working to ramp up enthusiasm and both trotted out big name celebrities. For the Democrats, it was actress Alyssa Milano.
