GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services plans to open a psychiatric urgent care center in Kent County this coming spring.
The new center will offer emergency psychiatric treatment for patients who cannot wait for outpatient intervention, according to a release from the behavioral health provider. It will be the only dedicated psychiatric urgent care center in West Michigan.
The center will ease pressure on local emergency rooms where patients in immediate need of psychiatric care sometimes turn. In those cases, emergency care providers may need to board patients who are waiting for assessments or referrals — and that extra time is costly and delays treatment.
“A Psychiatric Urgent Care Center, paired with the existing continuum of behavioral health care available at Pine Rest and in the community, will help to address these problems,” Pine Rest President and CEO Mark Eastburg, Ph.D. said of the pilot program.
The center will be open seven days a week and will initially serve patients 18 years and older. Medicare, Medicaid and commercial health insurance plans will be accepted.
An exact date for the opening has not yet been released.
