GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — In November, Michigan voters will decide 38 Senate races, including who will take over Republican Dave Hildenbrand’s 29th District seat.
The Senate’s 29th District covers Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Ada Township and Cascade Township, as well as the city and township of Lowell and southeast Kent County.
Hildenbrand must leave the office because of term limits. Two current state House members will square off in two weeks to see who will get the job.
For Republican Rep. Chris Afendoulis and Democratic Rep. Winnie Brinks, this race means either extending their time in Lansing or staying in Kent County starting in January.
"You know, this is just a very exciting year, I think, for Democrats. We've seen just so much renewed energy since the 2016 election and so many people who realize that they needed to be more involved,” said Brinks. “I've been in the House for six years and I've been listening to constituent concerns all that time and the same things are coming up again and again and again and I think people are ready for change.”
