KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Five people are facing charges in connection to an armed home invasion and robbery near Western Michigan University’s campus Tuesday.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said around 10:45 p.m. a man was forced into his home at gunpoint. Several items were stolen from the home, located in the 1600 block of Knollwood Avenue near WMU’s Lawson Ice Arena.
A short time, police say the suspect vehicle was seen driving near the area of Grand Avenue and W. Main Street. As police pursued, two suspects got out of the vehicle.
The car was stopped a short distance away near the intersection of Woodware Avenue and Mabel Street in the city’s Northside neighborhood. Officers found stolen property inside the vehicle, which were returned to the victim, according to a KDPS news release.
The driver and two other suspects — all 19-year-old Kalamazoo residents — were arrested. Authorities are also requesting charges for two additional suspects, the release said.
The charges include first-degree home invasion, armed robbery, felony firearm, fleeing and eluding, unlawful imprisonment, conspiracy, aiding and abetting, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, larceny from a vehicle and accessory after the fact.
