OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Ottawa High School student arrested for bringing a gun to school is back in the Ottawa County jail.
Online records show Davian Weston, 17, was booked Tuesday. It's unclear why he's in custody.
24 Hour News 8 was there when the Holland teen was released on bond days earlier. He was eating a bag of Fritos when he offered this response for scaring his classmates the day prior: “My bad.”
Weston is charged with two felonies — receiving and concealing a stolen handgun and carrying a concealed weapon — and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a gun on school property.
If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
Ottawa County deputies say at least one other student reported seeing Weston with a gun outside the high school Thursday morning. They believe he had the weapon inside the school earlier in the day.
The report led to a lockdown and anxious moments.
Weston’s mother said he feels bad, but doesn’t understand the situation and is not allowed to comment.
Deputies arrested him quickly Thursday. Capt. Mark Bennett said Thursday there was no clear indication he had any intended target at the school.
Weston’s mom told 24 Hour News 8 bullying played no role in the incident. She said her son found a broken, unloaded gun and forgot it was in his backpack.
She said her son is a good kid. He has no criminal record, according to Ottawa County Juvenile Court.
