BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed and two tribal police officers injured in a crash in rural Berrien County Sunday.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-140 and Territorial Road in Bainbridge Township, south of Watervliet, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.
The two Pokagon Tribal Police Department officers were in the same SUV headed south on M-140 as they responded to a domestic violence call. The sheriff's office says the driver of a westbound sedan didn't yield at the intersection, leading to the crash with the cruiser.
The driver of the sedan, a 69-year-old woman, died at the scene. Her name was not released later Sunday.
The passenger in the cruiser was airlifted to a hospital in South Bend, Indiana. The driver was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The sheriff's office says everyone involved was wearing a seat belt. Weather does not appear to have been a factor and there was not any indication that something obstructed the car driver's vision.
