Day 5 of deliberations underway in baby murder trial

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kent County prosecutor hopes Tuesday will bring a decision by jurors who heard the case against a Wyoming mother accused of leaving her baby to die in a sweltering apartment.

The fourth day of deliberations in the Lovily Johnson trial came and went Monday with no verdict.

Johnson, 23, is charged with murder and first-degree child abuse in the July 2017 death of her 6-month-old son, Noah.

Prosecutor Chris Becker told 24 Hour News 8 this is the longest deliberation he’s ever experienced.

Jurors started considering the case late Wednesday afternoon and continued all of Thursday and into Friday without reaching a verdict. On Friday, deliberations were cut short when one of the jurors who previously underwent a medical procedure started bleeding and had to be hospitalized.
