WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A Detroit man whose passenger died in a crash Sunday night in Van Buren County is being held on drunken driving charges.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. on 28th Avenue west of 44th Street in Waverly Township, south of Bloomingdale.
Sheriff’s deputies at the scene found the passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Indiana, unconscious, bleeding heavily and entrapped in the vehicle that had crashed into a ditch. She was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital where she died, a release from the sheriff’s office said.
