HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash near Holland early Thursday morning.
Ottawa County dispatchers told 24 Hour News 8 that the deadly crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. at the intersection of 112th Avenue and Riley Street in Holland Township.
A vehicle with four people inside was headed northbound on 112th Avenue when the driver, 23-year-old Ector Juarez of Holland, went through the flashing yellow light and struck a westbound vehicle, according to sheriff’s authorities.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, 34-year-old Alexander DeVriendt of Holland, was pronounced dead at the scene. Juarez was transported via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.
All three passengers in Juarez’ vehicle taken to the hospital for treatment, including 21-year-old Aaron Marez, who was airlifted to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and is listed in critical condition. The other passengers, 25-year-old Abraham Garcia, of Holland, and 19-year-old Carlos Ramirez, of Holland, were taken via ambulance to Holland Hospital. Both are listed in serious, but stable, condition.
