KCHD: GR convention-goers sickened by H1N1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Health officials say approximately 120 people sickened during a convention in Grand Rapids suffered from Influenza A, also known as H1N1.

The KCHD began receiving reports of illness at the end of the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association convention, held Aug. 14-17 at DeVos Place. The cases involve convention-goers from at least 25 states, health officials say.

The Kent County Health Department and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday Michigan residents who attended the convention tested positive for the strain. Health officials say tests by health agencies elsewhere also confirmed the H1N1 strain is to blame.
