Districts make security changes for new school year

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Several school districts in West Michigan have made security changes for the upcoming school year.

Fruitport Community Schools hired a school resource officer, who will visit all the district’s campuses. Superintendent Bob Szymoniak told 24 Hour News 8 that the district lost its previous school resource office about five years ago due to budget cuts.

The school board approved the addition of a resource officer for the 2018/2019 school year at a meeting earlier this week. The district is using school bond money to pay the officer’s salary.
