Kalamazoo man shot after vehicle stolen at gunpoint

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) —The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating after a man was shot and his vehicle stolen Friday night.

It happened around 10:38 p.m. near the 1400 block of Charles Avenue in Kalamazoo's eastside neighborhood. 

Authorities responded to a shots fired report where they soon found a 26-year-old Kalamazoo man that had been shot in the leg. 

The 26-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. 

Officers say the victim told them his car was stolen from him at gunpoint and was later shot in the leg after the confrontation escalated. 

Authorities say they recovered the unoccupied vehicle a few blocks away. 

Officers say several suspects were involved, but only one's description is known. 

Investigators say a light skinned black male in his teens with hazel eyes, brown hair; he was last seen wearing a a gray hooded sweatshirt. The suspects are believed to have fled in a silver vehicle.
