Man sentenced for soliciting sexually explicit photos from teens

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan man was sentenced to over 20 years in prison for persuading dozens of teens to send him sexually explicit photos.

James Pyle, 27, was sentenced to 245 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a minor. He will also spend 10 years on supervised release and pay a fine of $2,500.

In 2014, Pyle posed as “Roman Kalhart” on Facebook and claimed he was 15 years old to befriend multiple young teens and persuaded them to send him sexually explicit photos. Investigators found Pyle had obtained photos from as many as 50 to 70 minors.

At the time of the offense, he was on probation for accosting a child for immoral purposes. His probation was revoked and he was sentenced to 33 to 48 months in prison in 2015. His federal sentence will be served consecutively to his state sentence, which will be completed on Nov. 20.
