GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday for people to talk with officials about the planned reconstruction of the I-96 and I-196 interchange.
The $38 million project is slated for work during the 2019 and 2020 construction season.
The largest change for will be for drivers traveling eastbound along I-96 and I-196 as they approach the East Beltline. The current configuration is both frustrating and difficult for drivers trying to exit eastbound I-96 to the East Beltline.
Renderings provided by MDOT show the new configuration will build a new exit ramp for drivers heading eastbound on I-96 looking to exit onto the East Beltline.
There will also be a new exit ramp from drivers exiting eastbound I-196 heading to the East Beltline. Those two new exit ramps will merge with each other.
Through lanes from both eastbound I-96 and eastbound I-196 will also merge together.
The meeting will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the MDOT offices on Leonard Street in Grand Rapids.
