GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man who allegedly broke into a home and used its phone to open a credit card in the victim’s name is going to prison.
A federal judge recently sentenced 39-year-old Kahwahnas Nucumbhi Potts to nine years in prison for aggravated identity theft and credit card fraud.
The judge said it was “outrageous” that Potts impersonated the victim whose home he broke into in a call to the credit card company.
The attorney’s office says Potts used that credit card to withdraw more than $16,000 from ATMs between December 2015 and January 2016. His car had a stolen license plate on it during the withdrawals, which he did while wearing a mask and gloves, according to the attorney’s office.
