GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids Community College has installed a drop box to get rid of unused prescription drugs to help fight the opioid crisis.
The program is an effort by local pharmacies, area law enforcement, the Grand Rapids Water Resource Recovery Facility, Wyoming’s Clean Water Plant and other government agencies to provide community members a safe and effective way to get rid of unneeded medications.
It is also available to dispose of vitamins, supplements, pet medicine, medicated ointments and lotions. Anything disposed of will be incinerated, but remember to mark out any personal information before disposal. The name of the medication should still be visible.
Drop boxes were added to most Walgreens stores across Michigan last week as part of a plan to challenge the opioid crisis.
The box can be found at Campus Police Headquarters located at 25 Lyon St. NE. It will be available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Weekend hours vary, so call ahead to 616.234.4010 to make sure the office is open.
