WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people face murder charges for allegedly killing their 18-month-old son in Wyoming earlier this year.
The Wyoming Department of Public Safety says that on March 16, its officers were called to a home in the 2600 block of Longstreet Avenue SW north of 28th Street on a report of a child not breathing. When emergency responders got there, they found the child was already dead.
The 18-month-old was identified Monday by the Kent County Prosecutor's Office as Yurik Birkenmeyer.
Police say conducted a "lengthy investigation" that eventually led to charges. They arrested the suspects Monday.
The prosecutor's office identified them as Yurik's parents Alexander Birkenmeyer and Andrea Todd. Both face charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
Arraignment may happen as early as Monday afternoon.
