U.S. Senate candidate Justin Amash building up campaign war chest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Justin Amash is building up a campaign war chest fairly quickly.

He says he has raised about $480,000 dollars since he joined the race on February 29th. In a news release, his staff says Amash raised an average of $106,000 dollars per week in contributions through the first-quarter fundraising period that ended March 31st. That outpaced his Republican primary opponents and left Amash with more than $740,000 dollars in cash on hand.

The race is for the seat incumbent Senator Debbie Stabenow has held since 2001. She is not running for re-election after her term expires at year's end.

Amash was a Third District Congressman from 2011 to 2021. He left the Republican party in 2019, saying he was unahppy with partisan politics. He was the only Republican in Congress to call for former President Trump to be impeached.
