Former Calvin University president sues university

Former Calvin University President Wiebe Boer is filing a lawsuit against the university alleging breach of contract, discrimination and defamation.

Boer took over the role in 2022 and resigned in February after he was accused of "unwelcome and inappropriate" communication with a non-student member of the campus community.

Boer admits to sending texts to a woman in the campus community, however he claims the messages were friendly and were not intended to be inappropriate.

The university says Boer exchanged 100 messages with a woman over a 10-day period about her appearance and when she would be on campus so Boer could see her.

Boer's lawsuit also claims that his wife Joanna was discriminated against based on her sex and race and was frequently belittled and undermined by certain administrators.
