GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed legislation that would let counties ask voters as to whether they want to increase hotel taxes to fund convention and entertainment facilities.

The increased tax would be key to fund the construction of the riverfront amphitheater and proposed soccer stadium in downtown Grand Rapids.

Commissioners in Kent County are expected to vote in May on a resolution that would put a tax increase question on the August primary ballot.
