Think tank will remove Kent County from sanctuary list

An immigration policy think tank will remove Kent County from their list of sanctuary jurisdictions.

The Center for Immigration Studies says after gathering more information the county can be taken off the list.

Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young released a statement saying she is thankful the center reviewed the county's policies to make the change.

Kent County was added to the list in 2019 after the sheriff's office announced they would no longer hold individuals based on a detainment request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The county determined a warrant signed by a federal judge would be needed to detain individuals.
