Why Grand Rapids didn't participate in statewide tornado drill

The state of Michigan conducted a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday afternoon, however the city of Grand Rapids did not participate in the drill.

The city says there were limited personnel available as the boil water advisory in the city was just lifted roughly an hour before the drill.

Officials say the city starts their monthly siren testing on April 5 and the tests will continue through October.

Kent County also did not participate in the drill as their monthly testing will resume soon.
