Minimal damage after fire at Grand Rapids Brewery in downtown GR

At around 4:00 PM, firefighters with Grand Rapids Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a fire at Grand Rapids Brewing Company in downtown Grand Rapids located at the Corner of Ionia Avenue and Fulton Street.

GRPD Fire Chief Brad Brown tells WOOD Radio that when they arrived on scene, they were met with heavy smoke from the basement of the building.

"Our crews were able to battle our way into the basement, found out it originated as a kitchen fire and ran up the exterior HVAC system and caught the roof on fire in multiple places," said Brown. "We did save a significant portion, actually there was very little damage based on the amount of fire and smoke we had when we showed up."

The fire has since been put out and no injuries have been reported. Brown says the building will remain closed for several days.

The cause of the fire is not yet known at this time, and investigation is currently ongoing.
