"Point-in-Time count" showing decrease in homelessness in Kent Co.

The annual "Point-in-Time Count" in Kent County is showing a small decrease in the homeless population.

Organizations and volunteers walked the streets on January 24 to count the number of individuals who were sleeping outside, using transitional housing or using an emergency shelter.

Any city receiving funding from the federal government for homelessness related issues is required to conduct a count once a year.

Officials counted 1,139 individuals this year.

In 2023,1,240 individuals were counted.
