SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has denied a permit to developers who are proposing a new private marina near Saugatuck.
Northshore of Saugatuck has been told by the state the Marina Basin Project would "permanently impact the critical dune area and result in the loss of a significant portion of the open dune habitat in Saugatuck Township."
The department also said it had concerns about tribal and public access to the Kalamazoo River.
The developer says it will pursue changes.
