GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A 50-year-old Kent County teacher has been arraigned on sexual assault charges for alleged abuse of a teenage girl more than twenty years ago.
James Christians was teaching at Northview Public Schools at the time of the alleged abuse.
The woman, who is now 39, told investigators she was 13 when she was first assaulted in 1998.
Christians has been teaching in Lowell schools for about 23 years. That district has placed him on leave.
"There is no indication at this time that the misconduct occurred on school property or involved Lowell Area School students or staff," Lowell Area Schools said in a letter addressed to parents.
