GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Officials with the Michigan State Police are urging people to be prepared if they have to travel today or tomorrow.

Lt. Michelle Robinson is urging drivers to have an extra blanket, phone charger, flashlight, food, kitty litter and water.

She's also urging drivers who have crashed their vehicles to move over.

"If you have a vehicle on the side of the road or you have any kind of first responder that is attending to a vehicle, safely move into the lane that is the opposite of where they are to make sure that you allow enough space for them to be able to handle that situation," Robinson tells WOOD-TV.

MSP says extra troopers will be working during the storm to respond to slide-offs.
