Sources: Convicted killer admits to 11 murders on death bed

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Garry Artman, the man who was found guilty last year of killing Sharon Hammack nearly three decades ago, reportedly confessed to 11 murders on his death bed.

Artman died from lung cancer last week.

Kent County Sheriff's Sgt. Eric Brunner tells WOOD-TV that detectives are now working to close several cases.

"We're trying to further help bring closure to these families that potentially have been impacted over these last many years by these unsolved cases," Brunner said. "So that is our hope, but there's still a handful of work to be done."

Police are still investigating the deaths of 17 women who either disappeared or were found dead in the Grand Rapids area over a three-year span in the 1990s.

Artman said he killed ten of them. The sheriff's office says one of them was 28-year-old Cathleen Dennis, who was last seen leaving So-So's Lounge on Division Avenue in 1995.

Last year, artman was also charged with killing a Maryland woman.
