For National Radon Action Month, Health departments in the area are offering free radon testing kits.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into cracks in walls or foundation.
It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
The gas does not have a taste, smell or color so a test kit is needed to identify it.
The free kits can be picked up from the Kent County Health Department, Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, Berrien County Health Department and Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency.
