Sheriff's lieutenant is out of the hospital after getting struck by suspect

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A Kent County Sheriff's lieutenant is out of the hospital and recovering after reportedly getting hit by a vehicle driven by a suspect that authorities were trying to arrest in Wyoming late Wednesday.

The sheriff's office says the 34-year-old Grand Rapids man rammed several parked cars as he tried to get away.

The lieutenant was thrown to the ground.

"He fell to the ground forcefully," Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young told WOOD-TV. "He was in a lot of pain on the scene."

The suspect was later arrested at an apartment in Gaines Township.
