GRPS: Gun confiscated at Ottawa Hills High School

Grand Rapids Public Schools says a student brought a gun to Ottawa Hills High School on Tuesday morning.

A press release from the district says the student arrived to school late and the metal detector sounded its alarm when the student passed through.

A public safety officer checked the student's bag and found a loaded handgun.

The weapon was confiscated and Grand Rapids Police were contacted immediately.

The student was arrested.

OHHS Principal Dr. Timothy Mabin sent a letter to parents saying "This is a serious reminder to all our families to be aware of what our young people are bringing with them to school."

Classes were able to continue as normal.
