Webb Chemical reports limited evacuations, no injuries after chemical spill

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. -- Webb Chemical Service Corp. in Muskegon Heights has reported an on-site chemical spill at its Building-4 distribution plant on Jarman Street south of Sherman Boulevard.

It says Hydrochloric Acid Baume was spilled around 11 a.m.

The product is used in pool chemistry and concrete etching. Webb says it notified the Muskegon County Hazardous Materials Response Team and local fire departments.

Limited evacuations were conducted by the Muskegon Heights Fire Department.

There were no injuries, and Webb says there was no groundwater contamination. Air samples were being taken to determine if there was any airborne contamination.

In an online statement, Webb Chemical apologized for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.
