Michigan to change hiring requirements to give veterans more opportunities

A new initiative in the state of Michigan will allow thousands of veterans to be eligible for job opportunities without needing a bachelor's degree.

The state will waive the requirement for some jobs if a veteran completed at least two years of active federal service in any military branch at a rank of staff sergeant (E-6) or above.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer said in a news release that the state is committed to finding way to support veterans.

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency says the state appears to be the first allowing this kind of substitution.
