Laundromat owner charged for allegedly shooting shoplifting suspect

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Prosecutor's Office says it has filed charges against Jose Guardalupe Morin related to a shooting September 12th. Formal charges were read at an arraignment on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting and alleged shoplifting happened at the E & J Laundromat on Kalamazoo Avenue, south of Hall Street. Prosecutor Chris Becker told WOOD Radio that Morin owns the business and allegedly shot a 16-year-old as he was exiting it.

"Those charges are Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, which is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections," Becker said.

The teenager survived the shooting.
