RAVENNA TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - A suspect is dead and a sheriff's deputy is hurt following a shooting in Ravenna Township this morning.

A vehicle that left the scene of a possible shooting last night was located by an officer who was off duty. Authorities chased the car until the suspect crashed into a ditch at Slocum and Neil roads.

The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was killed after firing a weapon.

The deputy, Joshua Hankins, is said to be in stable condition at a hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
