Gerald R. Ford International Airport building new rescue facility

The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is building a aircraft rescue and firefighting facility.

Ground was broken on the $14.5 million project on Wednesday.

Officials say the ARFF will be added to the airport operations center to improve response times and reduce risk.

The facility will be home to 19 members of the ARFF team who are trained to respond to aviation accidents and other possible incidents.
