Local nonprofits in "code red" with high temps approaching

A code red is in place for West Michigan's vulnerable populations as 90-degree temperatures are expected later this week.

Degage Ministries executive director Thelma Ensink says they are especially worried about individuals experiencing homelessness as the heat can be life threatening.

Ensink says anyone who needs to get out of the heat or needs to hydrate is welcome at the shelters.

Meals on Wheels of West Michigan delivery drivers are also on alert with the code red.

They are watching for signs of heat stroke or heat exhaustion as they deliver meals this week.
