Trial for former officer delayed, awaiting MI Court of Appeals decision

The 17th Circuit Court is adjourning the trial of former Grand Rapids Police Office Christopher Schurr as they wait for a decision from the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker says the delay was expected.

Becker says the original October trial date is no longer possible as the appeals court has not yet scheduled a date to hear an appeal from Schurr's defense.

The Michigan Court of Appeals will decide if Schurr was properly bound over for trial.

Schurr is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Patrick Lyoya.
