Grand Rapids-based athlete heading to U.S. National meet

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - An East Kentwood alumni turned Michigan State Spartan is taking his pole vaulting career to the national level.

Trevor Stephenson was once skeptical about whether or not track and field was his calling, but persistent motivation from his mother who has doubled as his coach throughout his career would not allow him to stop chasing after his destiny.

Stephenson set a state record for pole vaulting during his senior year at E.K., and would set a school record for MSU, qualify as an All-American and secure his spot for the national meet.
