Organization promoting diversity in veterinary field

Veterinary medicine is a popular field, however very few of the students choosing the career are people of color.

A 2021 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows only 1.2 percent of veterinarians are Black.

Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity, or CARE, is an organization trying to change that.

Dr. Azalia Boyd says there is a lack of recruitment of BIPOC students.

Boyd says the lack of role models in the field and financial cost is also a reason for the lack of diversity.
