John Ball Zoo raising turtles to help with population

John Ball Zoo is raising eastern box turtles to help prevent a decrease in their population.

The zoo is running the head starting program with Grand Valley State University and Pierce Cedar Creek Institute.

Officials say the turtle population is facing problems in the state due to the booming raccoon population.

John Ball Zoo says they have raised 74 turtles in the last three seasons.
