The Muskegon Heights police chief will serve as acting city manager for one week.
The Muskegon Heights City Council voted 4-3 to fire former city manager Troy Bell on January 23.
His contract was set to expire on January 31.
The council failed to reach quorum for two meetings in a row which led to no plan to replace Bell.
