Gaines Twp. election worker accused of election tampering

A Gaines Township election worker is facing felony charges after allegedly inserting a USB into election equipment after polls closed in August.

James Donald Holkeboer is facing falsifying election returns or records and using a computer to commit a crime.

If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison and $6,000 in fines.

Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons says she learned of the issue on August 18 and contacted the Kent County Sheriff's Office for an investigation.

Posthumus Lyons says the outcome of the election was not affected.
