The Big Three 9-2-22

1 Dark and divisive. That’s how a speech given by Joe Biden last night is being described.

The background lit blood-red, he was flanked by two Marines who were apparently being used as political props.

Biden railed against what he called “MAGA Republicans” claiming that President Trump and supporters are trying to undermine American democracy.

2 The highest court in the state may take up two ballot issues.

A group that wants to see a radical initiative allowing late-term abortions and sex change and gender operations along with other medical procedures without parental consent placed on the ballot this November, has asked the Michigan Supreme Court to take up their cause after a deadlocked bipartisan state board of canvassers failed to approve the measure due to multiple errors in the paperwork.

In the filing, the group asked the court to order the Board of State Canvassers to certify the question for the November ballot, and to do so by Wednesday. That would give board members time to certify the initiative before the board’s meeting on Sept. 9, which also is the deadline set by state law for the board to certify the ballot to the Secretary of State.

The Michigan Supreme Court has also been asked to place an extreme election measure on the November ballot after the Board of Canvassers rejected it , too, Wednesday.

3 Two full years of pandemic-disrupted learning in Michigan pushed state assessment scores further down in reading and writing for all grades tested, reduced college readiness for juniors to 28% and produced mostly declines in math, according to data released Thursday by state education officials.

The news came the same day that national test scores showed two decades of growth for American students in reading and math were wiped out by two years of pandemic-disrupted learning, according to the 74, a non-partisan news site.
