The Big Three 8-18-22

1 Grand Rapids police are looking for a man suspected of stealing a car with a 6 month old child inside.

It happened yesterday afternoon.

Within 30 minutes, police were able to locate the car with the child inside on the 700 block of Crescent Street NE. The infant appeared to be unharmed.

An active search for the suspect is ongoing in the Highland Park area, officials say. The suspect is described as a Black man, between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a pink or red shirt, but police say he changed into a white t-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department or Silent Observer.

2 The Comstock Park school community is mourning after the unexpected death of Tyler Edwards, who served as the boys varsity basketball coach.

School officials say Edwards is believed to have died from cardiac arrest on Monday.

Edwards, 27, was hired at Comstock Park High School in 2021 and was going into his second school year with the district. Despite only being with the school a short time, officials say he leaves behind a legacy.

3 Oakland County Circuit Judge Jacob Cunningham signed an order Wednesday keeping his temporary restraining order blocking enforcement of Michigan's abortion ban in “full force and effect” until he decides on a broader request for a preliminary injunction.

Cunningham made the announcement at the start of what is expected to be a two-day hearing over the potential for a preliminary injunction.

The order blocks county prosecutors from enforcing the state's abortion law as the courts consider a lawsuit brought by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer seeking to overturn the abortion ban as unconstitutional.
