Muskegon County prosecutor D.J. Hilson says he is going to start charges more minors involved in gun crimes as adults.
The announcement comes after several shootings in the county in recent months.
Hilson says some of the most difficult conversations he has had during his career have been with families who have lost a family member due to gun violence.
Hilson says he is making the decision to discourage minors from picking up firearms.
Charging decisions will still be made on a case-by-case basis.
