The Big Three 4-14-22

1 Protestors gathered downtown and marched through the streets of Grand Rapids after videos of Patrick Lyoya’s interaction with police was released by GRPD yesterday.

Four angles including dash & body cam footage, video from a doorbell, & the passenger captured part of the events on his cell phone.

It shows the traffic stop from beginning to tragic end. Lyoya gets out of the car after being stopped because his license plate didn’t match the vehicle. The officer orders him to get back in the car. Lyoya never complies.

He’s asked for his ID and eventually, a struggle ensues. Lyoya fights the officer and grabs the officer’s taser at one point.

Varied reaction to the videos from different perspectives throughout the community registered yesterday.

The community braced for protests that, for the meantime, remained peaceful.

Attorney Benjamin Crump is headed back to Grand Rapids for a news conference with the family today.

2 Frank James, the man arrested for allegedly setting off smoke grenades and shooting 10 people at a Brooklyn subway station Tuesday morning, will make his first appearance in court later today.

James was charged in federal court with violating a law that prohibits terrorist and other violent attacks against a mass transportation system. If convicted, he could spend life in prison.

The 62-year-old called in a tip to the Crime Stoppers hotline that led to his own capture.

3 Elon wants to buy Twitter. And he’s made an offer.

In a tweet, Musk announced that he'd made an offer and linked to the SEC filing.

In what's being described as a "best and final" offer to buy Twitter Inc., Elon Musk has launched a "hostile takeover" bid of "$54.20 per share in cash.

Musk wrote in a letter to Twitter's board that Twitter "will neither thrive nor serve [its free speech] societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company."
