GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Lena Meijer is being remembered for decades of giving throughout west Michigan.
Meijer, the wife of retail giant Frederik Meijer, died over the weekend.
"Gabriella and I are saddened to share that our beloved grandmother, Lena Meijer, passed away today at the age of 102," Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Grand Rapids, tweeted on Saturday. "We are grateful that she is at peace after a long, full, and impactful life."
The Meijers gave generously, providing key gifts for the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center, the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion and the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.
A replica of Meijer's family farm in Amble has been installed at the Lena Meijer Children's Garden.
Plans are being made for a private ceremony.
