Gloves not required when giving vaccine

Spectrum Health says individuals not wearing gloves while giving vaccinations is not breaking protocol and is perfectly safe.

Concern was raised by the community after a video of a COVID-19 vaccine was shared on the hospital's Facebook page and in the news.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration say gloves are not required unless the individual administering the vaccine has an open cut on their hand and make come in contact with bodily fluids from the patient.

A nationwide shortage of gloves also played into the decision.
